The overall experience of learning about a country, its strengths, its weaknesses, the government and the culture was an enlightening experience on how different people live in other parts of the world. The activity that we did with the GYU people with the beans, it gave prospective to how the government has to think and function. I think it is easy to blame the government for the things that go wrong in the country. Although, most of the time the government could be doing a better job but people do not take into account how hard it is to run a country.
Trying to figure out a way to implement the Millennium Development goals in a country that is not wealthy and does not have a large amount of resources seemed a little impossible. I feel that these goals are very accurate in what is needed to make this world a better place. I feel that having access to clean water, medical care and education are basic human rights that every person should have since birth. I made my budget but I do not think that it was good enough to achieve the goals by 2015. I think the idea of my budget was where it needed to be for my country. Meaning that more money needed to be invested in education and combating HIV/Aids then gender equality. I think there is an extreme amount of money that is needed to achieve just one of these goals for a whole country. To achieve these goals in a set amount of time and limited amount of money really is not ideal for a country like Honduras.
I think Honduras main struggle is that all the goals need to be implemented in this country to some extent. Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America; the poverty in the government is an extreme barrier in trying to achieve these goals.
